Do you accept Kaiser insurance?2026-06-27T13:31:52+00:00

We accept mainland Kaiser plans but not Hawaiʻi Kaiser, and we are not yet able to accept Kaiser QUEST. Call 808-777-9460 to confirm your specific plan.

Does OhanaPsych accept Medicaid (QUEST)?2026-06-27T13:21:14+00:00

Yes. OhanaPsych accepts Hawaiʻi Medicaid (QUEST), including HMSA QUEST, AlohaCare, and Ohana. Medicaid clients are a core part of who we serve, and telehealth visits are covered the same as in-person care.

What insurance plans does OhanaPsych accept?2026-06-27T13:21:12+00:00

OhanaPsych accepts most major insurance plans, including Hawaiʻi Medicaid (QUEST), Hawaiʻi Medicare, AARP Medicare Advantage, AlohaCare, Ohana (Medicaid and Medicare), Ohana CCS (behavioral health), HMSA (Akamai, HMO, PPO, and QUEST), HMAA/HWMG, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and United Behavioral Health, and TriCare (all plans). We also accept VA Community Care for veterans (TriWest – CCN). Call 808-777-9460 to confirm your specific plan.

Do you offer in-person visits, Telehealth visits, and audio-only visits?2026-07-02T13:36:09+00:00

Yes — all three, with a few rules set by Hawaii law that we follow carefully. In-person visits are available at our Honolulu and Hilo offices. Telehealth (video) visits are available for mental-health care from your very first visit — Hawaii law allows us to establish care by telehealth, but a regular phone call does not qualify, so a first telehealth visit is always live video (Haw. Rev. Stat. §453-1.3). Audio-only (phone) visits are available for established mental-health patients when video is not possible: Hawaii law requires a video or in-person visit within the 6 months before your first phone-only visit and within the 12 months before any later one (Haw. Rev. Stat. §431:10A-116.3). If your plan is Hawaii Medicaid (QUEST), phone visits are limited to mental-health care at home and require an in-person visit within 6 months before the first phone visit and at least every 12 months after (Med-QUEST memo QI-2527). For primary care, every new patient is seen in office for the first visit — our clinical policy — with telehealth available for many follow-ups.

Do you offer counseling or therapy services?2023-03-15T17:21:12+00:00

We provide brief counseling within your medication management visit. However if you are looking solely for counseling/therapy, we recommend that you seek out a licensed therapist. We can refer you, or you can search the database on the Psychology Today website to find a therapist that meets your needs.

Are Nurse Practitioners allowed to diagnose and prescribe medications to treat psychiatric disorders in the state of Hawaii?2023-03-15T17:20:47+00:00

Yes. Hawaii allows Nurse Practitioners to practice, diagnose and prescribe medications according to their expertise and training. All of the providers at OhanaPsych are licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners.

How do I get prescriptions after my telehealth visit?2023-03-15T17:21:38+00:00

Your provider will send prescriptions electronically to your pharmacy at the end of your telehealth visit. We follow all federal and state guidelines regarding this process.
