What GERD is

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is when stomach acid repeatedly flows back up into the esophagus, causing heartburn, regurgitation, and irritation. It is common and very treatable.

Your care begins with a visit to our Honolulu office so we can get to know you and complete any needed exams, and after that first in-office visit, much of your ongoing care can continue conveniently by telehealth.

When is heartburn considered GERD?

It is considered GERD when reflux happens frequently (often two or more times a week) or causes bothersome symptoms. Persistent symptoms are worth evaluating.
